Privacy notice
This notice explains how SkyHigh Medical Dialysis and ICU Centre, part of SkyHigh Medical Centre, collects, uses, stores and protects personal and health information. It is written to the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
What we collect
Clinical information recorded during care, including observations, results, imaging and treatment records. Identity and contact details for the patient and next of kin. Insurance and payment details. Information supplied by a referring hospital about a patient being transferred to us.
Through this website we collect what is submitted in the referral form, which is clinical information about a patient supplied by a clinician, and standard technical information about site use.
Why we use it
- To provide clinical care and maintain an accurate record
- To communicate with families and with referring and receiving clinicians
- To process payment and insurance claims
- To meet legal, regulatory and professional obligations
- To review and improve the safety and quality of the service
Information about critically ill patients
Many patients here cannot consent for themselves. In those circumstances we share information with next of kin and those close to the patient in order to provide care and keep the family informed, which is both lawful and necessary. Where a patient has previously expressed a wish about who should and should not be told, that wish is respected.
We ask families to nominate one spokesperson. This is partly practical and partly a safeguard, since it limits the number of people to whom confidential clinical detail is disclosed.
Who we share it with
Clinicians involved in the patient's care, including the referring hospital and any hospital the patient is transferred on to. Insurers and HMOs funding treatment. Laboratories and specialists. Regulators and authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell information and we do not share it for advertising.
Retention and security
Records are retained in line with Nigerian regulatory requirements, which for adult records is a minimum of six years from the date of last attendance. Access is restricted to staff who need it, electronic systems are access controlled, and all staff are bound by professional confidentiality obligations.
Your rights
- To ask what information is held and to receive a copy
- To ask for inaccurate information to be corrected
- To object to certain uses
- To complain to us and to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission
